Got Milk?

It's summertime. Your hot. The kids are hot. Everyone is screaming for something cold to drink. I know how it is. It is so easy to grab juice, or flavored sugar water, or even take a quick run to the gas station for a frozen drink. Yes they are good and the kids love it, but why not do something better? Something healthier?

Think about strawberries. Think about bananas. Think about cold, smooth, delicious milk. Thats right. Milk. Make a smoothie instead. If you have to give your kids something why not give them a serving a fresh fruit plus vitamins they need instead of filling them with sugar water.

Maybe you don't like bananas, or maybe a just looking at a strawberry turns you into one. There are other options. Take a look at www.whymilk.com. There is even one for an Apple Brown Betty smoothie. Who knew?

There are all kinds of delicious recipes for everything from breakfasts, to snacks to dinner. You are sure to find something or some way to sneak milk into your child's diet if they won't drink it.

Mom Central recently invited me to share with you the ways my family enjoys milk. I gave it some thought and I was amazed at how much I rely on milk in my everyday cooking. I use it to make brownies, mac and cheese, biscuits, muffins, cakes, homemade ice cream, milkshakes, smoothies, hamburger helper, and thats just what I needed it for in the past few days. And the kids love to eat it in cereal and drink chocolate milk. It doesn't bother me a bit since milk is good for us.

Milk can be an easy way to give your kids the vitamins and nutrients they need. We have all heard the milk helps grow strong and healthy bones and teeth. Did you know that milk also has vitamin B12? B12 helps to make red blood cells that helps maintain our nervous system. It also had potassium which can help maintain a normal blood pressure. Someone in my family has borderline high blood pressure, low potassium and won't drink milk. Coincidence? I don't think so, but men are stubborn and it takes another man to point things out to them before they believe them. Anyways.... Milk is important. Yes you can get all the vitamins you nutrients you need elsewhere but why? Milk tastes good, can be used in so many different ways and is relatively inexpensive for the nutrients it packs. You can read all about the nutritional value of milk for yourself HERE

So this summer pick a better treat for your family and give milk a try.
