******Disgusting post warning******
I am sick of dealing with vomit. Great way to open a post isn't it? 4 times in 6 days I had had to clean up messes. Last night P woke up sick. He has NEVER made it to the bathroom. NEVER EVER!!!! In fact, only once has he even tried. 2 times this week he has gotten car sick. Once was on the school bus and they tried to send him home. The other time was Christmas Eve along with E. This was the first time E got car sick, but P gets car sick ALL THE TIME! (I also have had to deal with him waking up throwing up in the middle of the night every other month since he started solid foods, for no apparent reason.) It has gotten pretty old. I might be able to handle it better if I had a warning or something. But no, P never tells me he is sick. He just sits there and throws up all over the car and himself. Then I have a mess to clean up that I don't think I can take anymore. I KNOW I won't be able to take 2 kids doing it. I have got to find some way to nip this car sickness thing in the bud.
I also suffer from car sickness but can usually ward it off completely by driving, but if I am not driving I have to be in the front seat. Those options are not possible for the kids. The only option I know of for them would be to give them Dramamine. I don't really like this option. For one, the car sickness doesn't hit every single car ride, so how would I know when to give it and when not? I don't like the idea of giving them the medicine all the time. Then there is the drowsiness it causes. Granted that seems a small price to pay. It is possible that giving medicine will be my only choice. I have an aunt who has to wear a motion sickness patch all the time. So before I head to the doctor to try to convince him that I am not over reacting and it is excessive, blah blah blah, I would like to try some alternatives.
So I am asking all of you. What works? What doesn't? I don't care if it is something as silly as standing on your head for 3 minutes, jumping up and down 4 times, spinning in a circle, while doing the hokey pokey and sucking on a peppermint. If it works, it works. I welcome all old wives tales, all family secret recipes, anything to keep from having to deal with vomit on a weekly basis.

I know what you mean on the vomit--my youngest just had a stomach bug and I had several vomit baths this last week. Uggh... My oldest daughter used to get sick whenever we left town. Nothing seemed to help consistently. It seemed to help a little if she could see out the front window. Some cars have better views from the back seat than others. She seems to have outgrown it for the most part, but sometimes we still have to stop for her. I tried to pull over when she felt bad and get her out of the car to walk around a bit. Hopefully age will help some and maybe somebody else will have more useful suggestions in the mean time!
Ginger. Try ginger candy (yuck), ginger snaps, ginger root--- anything with ginger in it. I don't know why this works but it just does. So little ginger snaps to slowly munch on might be the ticket for your little one (while riding). Best of luck! Ain't Momm'n Fun! LOL

I've heard of a kind of bracelet/wristband you can wear, which helps stop car sickness. It's also supposed to help with morning sickness.
Also some cola should help.
We were dealing with the same things and none of the usual things worked. So I bought my 9 month old daughter a portable DVD player. I felt horrible, but it worked. I just put in a Baby Einstein video and she never puked again!! She's now 2 and a 1/2.
I know how long you've had this problem and you already know I have no suggestions so I would say buy a small trashcan to keep in the car and one to keep next to P's bed and teach him to use it or make him clean up his own mess since he won't tell you he's sick and won't try to make it to the can.
Airplane vomit bags might be a good option. :)
I have heard that dropping a tiny bit of pepermint extract into milk can help upset stomachs. Possibly try also candy canes or starlight mints (those are easy to keep in the car)
The only other thing I would suggest (which you have probably thought of)is 7-up and saltines.
Good luck!!!
I'd like a cure for this too! My 8 year old gets car sick/bus sick, etc. It's awful, I crack the window, and he takes his coat off in the car, other than that it's hit or miss. :(
I would reiterate about the ginger. I have a friend who used to get car sick and it seemed to really work for her.
I have a chuckbucket. Or rather a small bowl, filled with some kitchen towels (to absorb the vomit). I hate cleaning sheets too.. drives me INSANE! Good luck!
I wish I had some great advice for you! I too have heard great things about ginger. WE tried those bracelet things, but they never worked on our kiddos. I hope you find something that works for y'all.
My 6 year old son gets horrible car sickness. I don't know if this will work for everyone but it did help my son.
When I put up sunshades on the back windows last summer my son went from having to stop every trip to having to stop maybe once a week at most. I also noticed that he does better on the school bus (which has tinted windows) than in a car.
Just wanted to drop by and wish you a Happy New Year!

I use several of the Hyland's products. The teething tablets is of course my favorite. I have had success with the products that I use and they are not expensive. You might want to give it a try before prescription medication. A lot of their products can be bought at walmart for under $5. It is Hyland's Motion Sickness
tablets and their website is http://www.hylands.com/products/motionsickness.php
My 3 year old also used to get carsick all the time, but he's getting better as we take him driving around as often as possible. DVD player helps a lot for a short drive, but if we want to go for more than 3 hours drive, I still give him medicine.
Dramamine. That might be the answer. I'm not sure if you can give it to children though. Maybe you can find a children's form at the store. I get terrible motion sickness too. Especially on boats. Have your little one look straight ahead when your driving and crack the window a little bit. Fresh air always helps me. I can never read in the car or look down. If I do the sickness starts. Uggg!! Hope things get better for you soon.
We had very car sick children and didn't have much success in preventing it, which is why we sell sick bags in small quantities.
The sickness stopped as suddenly as it started, but we still get the occasional deployment.
I sufferred with car sickness as a child, even being sick in my grandmother's hat on one occasion and found that eating an apple really slowly worked.
Good luck, car sickness is just horrid for everyone.
